Where educators, students, and parents are networking the world together. Global COIN allows international connections via the World Wide Web for researching and collaborating with different cultures and their societies.

The International Education K 16 website is a collaborative effort at Pennsylvania Department of Education between the Bureaus of Teaching and Learning and Community and Student Services. This website will emphasize World Languages, World Cultures, and global issues. Global Coin will provide materials and resources to students, teachers, parents and professionals. In the future Global Coin will be enhanced and expanded technologically to meet numerous educational needs.

MATH

Although it is an interesting and enjoyable study for its own sake, mathematics is most appropriately used as a tool to help organize and understand information from other academic discipline

SCIENCE

Any study of science includes the search for understanding the natural world and facts, principles, theories and laws that have been verified by the scientific community and are used to explain and predict natural phenomena and events.

WORLD LANGUAGES

Foreign Language, World Language, Second Language and Target Language = a language being studied other than English. World languages include the study of foreign cultures and communities.

ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY

Environment and Ecology is grounded in the complexity of the world we live in and our impact on its sustainability. The human interactions with the ecosystem and the results of human decisions are the main components of this academic area. Environment and Ecology examines the world with respect to the economic, cultural, political and social structure as well as natural processes and systems. This integration across systems is what sets this academic area apart from all others.

GEOGRAPHY

GOVERNMENT

Search for and build a network of sites dedicated to governmental systems. Explore the meaning of global citizenship, responsible energy policies, international treaties, and collaborative ways that governments solve problems plus much more!

TECHNOLOGY

Technology education is the use of accumulated knowledge to process resources to meet human needs and improve the quality of life. New technological tools and techniques make it possible to enact far-reaching changes in our world. Computers play an integral role in every day life by extending our abilities to collect, analyze and communicate information and ideas.

THE ARTS

The arts represent society’s capacity to integrate human experience with individual creativity through art, music, drama and numerous other mediums.

LITERATURE

Writings in prose or verse especially having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest.

HEALTH

The knowledge and skills that will enable one to achieve and maintain a physically active and healthful life. Personal health impacts one’s life and the lives of those around them. By becoming and remaining physically, mentally, socially and emotionally healthy, people will increase the chances of achieving higher intellectual potential.

SPORTS

A source of diversion, recreation or physical activity. Most often sports are organized competitive games or competitions.

GLOBAL ISSUES

Search for information and analysis on issues with global impact. Research the efforts of nations to meet the global energy crisis and issue of global warming, or how the world plans to meet vast pandemics, safe drinking water and economic downturns.
